What are we doing? I can’t speak for everyone, but I think the majority of us aren’t doing anything. It’s so easy for us to forget and ignore these issues of poverty because we don’t live in it or ever experience it. It’s sad that we get so caught up in the tabloids and all of the materialistic items around us, when their are people like this little boy who hasn’t eaten in days or weeks. Maybe if we all tired to be more aware of what’s going on in the world, instead of just in our own lives, we’d have a better, more peaceful world to live in. Or even if you take another step and spend time working with organizations to help fight this issue. Donate any extra money you have at the end of the day, even if it is just loose change. Whether you just grow awareness or if you physically go out to help, you could have an impact on our world’s future, which might need some help. Pictures like this break my heart, it’s sad to see that this is a reality for many people, not a nightmare.. It really makes you realize how lucky we are.

There is so much more we could be doing to help impoverished people, like this child, live a better life. The citizens of America and many other wealthy nations are so consumed with materialistic symbols of success that we rarely even consider that there are people who can not afford food- let alone three large meals a day. It is sad to think that we spend our money so frivolously when we could be donating it to worthy causes such as Habitat for Humanity. I wish I could say that this issue can be easily rectified but I do not believe that it is. Hopefully, however, one day it will be resolved and these people will no longer have to suffer.

I agree that there are many people who don’t do anything, but there are also many people who are trying to help. The problem is we can’t ever be able to help everyone, and we can’t be expected to help everyone. Those who want to help have to pick and choose what cause they wish to contribute to due to their economic and social status. Though we might want to help everyone in the world, it is just not feasible.

I definetly agree with this, we are very lucky to live in a country where we do not have to worry about when our next meal is or if there will ever be enough food for the family. I know that our country today has become so materlistic and we could us e the money for that to benefit someones else or even save someone’s life. i wish we could save everyone but it is a very difficult challenge and one person at a time is basically all that we can do. if only people were exposed to what goes on around the world then maybe they would open up their eyes and see what really is important and what isnt

This is basically what I wrote too. We’ve been taking advantage our entire life and only when we see how some people truly live we feel bad. We need to start doing something as a country to show how grateful we really are. The littlest things could help if everyone just worked together. Someday this will affect everyone and those people who just feel bad but never acted will feel true regret. I don’t want to be one of those people so hopefully I can do something positive to help people in countries like that.

I completely agree. We have the ability to do so much more for the people who are starving in these countries, but we don’t take advantage of it. Although there are a bunch of organizations and charities, we could still be doing so much more to help these children. People say how sad it makes them to see and hear about things like this, yet they still do nothing.

I completely agree. When we live in a country like America for our entire lives, we don’t know any different than what we are living. It takes a picture like this to open our eyes. Every little bit helps whether we are donating time or money. If everyone helped out a little, instead of us putting the responsibility on a small few, we could accomplish a lot more. Maybe we could eventually get to the point where children like this wouldn’t have to suffer anymore.

I agree. I think we all get way to caught up in what we want and completely forget about what others actually need. And it’s so hard to see think about these types of things going on because we don’t experience them and they don’t usually directly affect us or anyone around us.
